At Crookhey Hall, pupils enjoy a broad curriculum tailored to the needs of the individual. There is particular emphasis on the pursuit of challenging outdoor activities which enable the boys to develop physical and social skills in a more informal environment, free from the constraints of the classroom for one day each week.
This focus provides opportunities for the development of emotional maturity through co-operative, collaborative activity as well as the development of self-respect, tolerance and understanding. Activities include walking, climbing, cycling, golf, fishing, dry-slope skiing, horse-riding, orienteering and canoeing.
Each class also has one P.E. session a week which incorporates individual endeavour, team games, swimming and other aspects of the Physical Education curriculum. The school makes use of facilities at Lancaster University Sports Centre and the grass pitches at Crookhey Hall School itself.
There is a comprehensive careers programme delivered in PSHE lessons and by the school’s Young People’s Service adviser, who visits each week. As an extension of this service, YPS staff accompany students when visiting their offices and undertaking college visits in their own locality. This provides reassurance and a positive bridge between school and the world of work.
