Special Educational Needs

Crookhey Hal l School is a small day special school for pupils with emotional, social and behavioural difficulties. Under the terms of the 1996 Education Act all pupils have Statements of Special Educational Needs.  These statements identify ESBD and a wide range of additional special educational needs including Asperger’s, ASD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Specific Learning Difficulties.

The school accepts its responsibility to ensure that the special needs of each pupil, as identified in his Statement are addressed.

This is achieved by:

  • Provision of a broad, balanced curriculum.
  • Development of individual behaviour management programmes.
  • Writing and maintaining Individual Education Plans.
  • Target setting.
  • Small classes with dedicated, experienced staff.
  • Home Liaison Officer works closely with all carers/parents in partnership.

Crookhey Hall School works closely with all stakeholders to ensure that the individual needs of each child are met consistently.

Pupils have an Individual Behaviour Management Plan to support the development of appropriate behaviour and an Individual Education Plan to support academic progress. Looked after children also have Personal Education Plans.

A nurture unit is available to support young people with particular social/emotional needs and the school benefits from the Acorn Care and Education Health and Therapy team.
